Privacy policy

Draft, last updated 21 October 2026

Draft for review. This policy is not in force yet. Eddie still has to check it, and the items marked "Draft note" need filling in before launch.

What we collect

Scoopii keeps what your cookbook needs to work:

  • Apple sign-in id
  • Nickname
  • Your recipes
  • Notes
  • Batches
  • Photos you add
  • Ratings
  • Shopping list
  • Your freezer
  • Your settings

Apple may also pass on your first name (we use it as your nickname). We don't ask Apple for your email, so we don't have it.

Your settings are your machine, units, language, the country you shop in, your sweetener and the ingredients you avoid. We also keep your AI recipe balance and purchase history, when you said yes to using AI, and a short log of AI requests so we can fix problems and stop abuse.

Some things stay on your phone only: reminders for pints in the freezer and the Lab form you were filling in.

No ads, no tracking across apps, and no analytics tools in the app.

AI partners

We only use AI when you ask for it, or when you open a recipe written in the other language, and only after you say yes in the app. Your recipe ideas go to two AI partners:

Anthropic writes, changes and translates recipes Gets what you typed, your Lab choices, your machine, language, the country you shop in, your sweetener and ingredients you avoid, and the names of recipes already in your cookbook so it doesn't repeat one. When you change a pal, it also gets that recipe. When you ask it to tidy up a recipe you typed in yourself, it gets that recipe. When you open a recipe written in the other language, it gets that recipe's words (the name, ingredient names, steps, pal line and kid jobs) to translate them. Quantities and nutrition are never sent. We keep the translation with the recipe, so this happens only once.
fal draws the pal's picture Gets only a short description of the pal to draw, plus a few of our own pal pictures to copy the style from. fal draws it with OpenAI's image model, so OpenAI gets the same description and pictures. We then store the finished picture ourselves.

None of them get your name, email or Apple ID.

Draft note: confirm the data processing terms and retention settings for both accounts before launch.

Sharing

When you share a pal, anyone with the link can see that recipe, its picture and your nickname. Nothing else from your cookbook. You can turn a link off, and it stops working.

If someone adds your shared pal to their cookbook, it becomes their copy. It may still show your nickname as the person who shared it, until you delete your account.

Pictures of pals are stored at web addresses that are hard to guess but not locked, so anyone who has the exact address can open the picture. Your own batch photos are private to your account.

Who helps us, and where

We use a few companies to run Scoopii. They handle data for us and only as we tell them.

When data goes to the United States, we rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified, or on the EU's standard contractual clauses.

Draft note: check each company's certification.

Payments

Apple handles payment, so we never see your card. When you buy a pack, the app sends us Apple's signed receipt and we check it with Apple. We keep the transaction number, the pack, the date and whether it was a test purchase, so your balance stays right. Apple tells us about refunds, and we take the refunded AI recipes off your balance.

How long we keep it

  • Your account, cookbook (including translations of your recipes), notes, batches, photos, settings and purchase history: until you delete your account.
  • The log of AI requests, including what you typed: 30 days.
  • Counters for free AI changes: 7 days.
  • Records of Apple's purchase and refund messages: about 13 months. These hold transaction numbers, not your name.
  • Short technical logs at our hosts, such as IP addresses: as long as each host keeps them, usually days to weeks.

Why we may use it

  • To give you the app you signed up for: your account, cookbook, sharing and purchases (contract).
  • To send your ideas to our AI partners: your yes in the app (consent). You can stop using AI any time; the rest of the app keeps working.
  • To keep the service safe, fix errors and stop abuse, using logs and daily limits (legitimate interest).
  • To keep purchase records as bookkeeping law requires (legal obligation).

Kids

Accounts are for grown-ups. Kids use Scoopii on a parent's phone, with the parent signed in. We don't knowingly create accounts for children. If you think a child has an account, write to us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Ask to see your data or get a copy, ask us to correct it, limit how we use it, object, or have it deleted. You can take back your yes to AI. You can also complain to Datatilsynet, the Danish data protection authority, or to the authority where you live.

Deleting your account

Delete your account any time in Settings, on the You tab. It deletes everything, including your cookbook, notes, batches, photos, share links and unused AI recipes. We also tell Apple to disconnect Scoopii from your Apple ID. Unused AI recipes are not refunded.

This website

scoopii.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no ads. When you open a share link, your browser asks our server for that one recipe. Our hosts see your IP address and browser type, as any website does.
